Breakfast in the mountains

Breakfast in the mountains

For many, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It’s the best way to get your day off on the right foot with great food and drink, not to mention breathtaking views. Your hosts would be pleased to receive your table registration in advance.

Dr’ Berghof, Damüls

Every Friday, the Berghof Hotel offers Alpine breakfast at the hotel’s own barn, which is a 25-minute walk away. Much of the food that’s served is either homemade or is sourced directly from the region. This includes spelt bread and yeast plait as well as apricot jam, eggs, honey, ham and Landjäger sausage and mountain herb tea. www.berghof-damuls.webnode.at

Neuschwand snack station, Hittisau

The peaceful Lecknertal valley can only be reached by car via a toll road. The three euro fee, however, is more than worth it. After a relaxing walk of approx. forty minutes, arrive at the managed hut, which also rents rooms. It’s the kind of place where one gladly lingers a little longer. www.facebook.com/jausenstationneuschwand

Baumgarten panorama restaurant, Bezau

950 metres in altitude separate the village in the valley and the breakfast buffet. Luckily for you, there’s the Bezau cable car. From the exit at the mountain station, the restaurant with a large terrace is just a few steps away. Feel like a little hike after dinner? Try the one-and-a-half-hour Panoramaweg trail, for example. www.seilbahn-bezau.at

Diedamskopf mountain, Schoppernau

You can also take the gondola high up to the Diedamskopf mountain. Every Tuesday and Wednesday, guests can satisfy their appetites at the buffet, which leaves nothing to be desired, and features everything from a typical Bregenzerwald Riebel corn semolina mash to a glass of Prosecco. Make things easy: The mountain summit is just a 15-minute ascent away. www.diedamskopf.at

Hochalphütte mountain hut, Warth

Naturally, you could enjoy a similar breakfast at the affiliated Hotel Jägeralpe on the Hochtannberg Pass, but the cheese, butter and milk from the Alpine pasture taste even better at altitude. In addition, there is also fresh farmhouse bread and sausage from Warth, yoghurt from Au, homemade jam, and scrambled or fried eggs. www.jaegeralpe.at/de/walser-bergfruehstueck- 1.html

Alpengasthaus Edelweiss inn, Au

According to the website of Alpengasthaus Edelweiss inn, “the miracle of mountains is that they instantly reconcile you with the world.” The same can be said of the inn, which is located between Au and the striking Kanisfluh massif. It’s a place that gives guests strength as they enjoy breakfast with a view of the morning sun. www.oeberle.com

Berghof Fetz, Dornbirn/Schwarzenberg

The Bödele is a border area between the Rheintal valley and the Bregenzerwald. Great tasting food can be found almost everywhere. With its delicious breakfast buffet, Berghof Fetz on the Bödele is living proof. This family-run business advertises its best asset, the “Beautiful views.” www.berghoffetz.at

Alpe Brongen mountain pasture, Schetteregg

From the cable car parking area in Schetteregg, guests are just a thirty-minute walk from a completely different world. Here the Meusburger family runs the Brongen mountain pasture dairy. The 55 ‘animal employees’ ensure that the guests never run out of milk, cheese, yoghurt and butter. www.meusburger-kaese.at
