Sulzberg

Sulzberg is located at a plateau at nearly 1,000 m elevation and provides beautiful views from the Bregenzerwald to Lake Constance. About 2,000 inhabitants call this village home.

Culture & Events

Visible from afar, the parish church dedicated to Saint Lawrence is located at the edge of the village square. The interior is well worth a visit as it is one of the few churches in Vorarlberg built in Empire style. The reconstruction and expansion of the church was planned by Alois Negrelli (1828-1829), who later in life worked on the planning of the Suez canals. The modern municipal building is also worth seeing. The piece “1,740 I’s” in the entranceway is composed of hair and locks of the people of Sulzberg.

Activities

Countless hiking trails across the high plateau are accessible in summer. One can make use of the favourable location for excursions to the Bregenzerwald or Lake Constance. At Sulzberg’s Nordic Sport Park, holidaymakers can enjoy 20 km of cross-country ski trails, a connecting trail to the panorama trail on the high ridge of the Sulzberg, as well as perfectly groomed winter hiking trails. The Nordic Sport Park Sulzberg also accommodates a biathlon course where interested parties can test their skills (book in advance). The biathlon school provides courses with three 50-min sessions. Appointments must be booked in advance.

Tip

  • Cross-country skiing by floodlight: Only available from Monday to Friday from 5 to 8:30 pm along the 4.8 km circuit at the Nordic Sport Park.
