The village of Riefensberg, with its 1,000 inhabitants, is located near the border with Allgäu (Germany) at 780 m above sea level. The town has two different levels.

The 18-hole Bregenzerwald golf course is located on the wide valley floor and beautiful views over the golf course and the Alpine foothills can be enjoyed from the village centre above.

Culture & Events

The Juppenwerkstatt is both culturally and architecturally interesting. Guests can follow the time-consuming process of creating a traditional women’s Bregenzerwald Tracht, a special black, finely pleated and varnished dress. The Juppenwerkstatt is located in an old Bregenzerwald house. During renovations, the architects replaced the house door with a glass partition to allow visitors a view of the interior.

Starting from Riefensberg, there are countless hiking trails to choose from. The Golfpark Bregenzerwald welcomes seasoned golfers and novices interested in participating in an introductory lesson. The golf course also cooperates with golf courses in neighbouring Allgäu as well as with a number of golf hotels. In wintertime, the small Riefensberg-Hochlitten ski area is especially popular with families. The Alpenarena Hochhäderich, with its ski lifts and cross-country ski trails, is located close by.

  • The “Wirtshaus Bartle” inn is highly recommended. The citizens of Riefensberg have successfully run it as a collective for several years.
