The cross-country paradises of the Bregenzerwald region
Au-Schoppernau, Hittisau and Sulzberg are the villages with the most extensive networks of cross-country trails. There is hardly any village in the Bregenzerwald region which does not feature a cross-country trail.
Au-Schoppernau
Au and Schoppernau in the upper part of the Bregenzerwald region boast 62 km of cross-country trails in total. The level of difficulty ranges from easy to intermediate. Mostly, there are only slight ascents and descents. The trails are freshly groomed every day.
Hittisau
Hittisau comprises two cross-country skiing areas. One is located at the Hochhäderich mountain (there is also a little ski area). This demanding 12-km trail features a series of ascents and descents. The second cross-country skiing area extends to Balderschwang in the Allgäu region in Bavaria. The borderland trail along the river Bolgenach is about 50 km long and extraordinarily scenic.
Sulzberg
The alpine cross-country trails in Sulzberg are about 20 km long. They lead from the about 1,000-meter panoramic mountain ridge to the Allgäu region in Bavaria, partly crossing the border. Combined with the Oberreute cross-country skiing area, sports enthusiasts can indulge their passion on 70 km of cross-country trails.
